Okay guys, maybe one of you can help me. I've asked everyone else but no one knows anything. I have a Compaq Armada (1750 Notebook PC 6366/T/6400/D/0/1 for the really techy among you).

I'm trying to upgrade it from Windows 95 to 98, since I'm sure it can't handle XP. I got a copy of it and a universal key, (VP9VV-VJW7Q-MHY6W-JK47R-M2KGJ) which Microsoft is now giving out, since 98 is no longer supported. I downloaded the updated drivers for my laptop at

I saved them in a folder called Drivers on a cd. But I was told that there's a certain way I need to install them. Does anyone know if this is true or if I can just open the .exe files and install in any order? I really don't want to ruin this machine, since I love it and now bought a wireless card and powered usb hub to go with it... Also, I found a page on installing Greek.
http://www.hri.org/fonts/w98upgrade.html
Apparently, you have to tell it to install foreign languages while you're installing Windows or it uses the default english. My question is will this just install the Greek keyboard and fonts which is what i want, or will it turn the whole machine Greek? I need Greek support on there or the whole thing will be pointless. Thanks in advance for any help given.

As far as drivers go, you should install things like chipset drivers first, followed by usb on the assumption that there not covered by chipset. Next install vga then sound and then after that do what ever you want.
If you want a tad more procice instructions then i'll look at what drivers hp have actually listed on that page.
As a general rule, chipset first.

What do you mean by chipset? It doesn't say anything about that. And I'd be extremely grateful if you give that page a look. I feel like I'm being spoon-fed but at the same time, the person helping me with this is the turn on computer, check email and turn it off type. She just follows what's on screen or what she's told.

Right. As far as the drivers go on that page, you can install them in what ever order you want, however you should install the drivers before you install any of the software listed on that page - you do realise that you don't need half of that software in order to get the most out of your system?
Keep us posted.

Thanks. I'll cross my fingers and hopefully be able to do it this week.

Cool. As I said in the last topic about this, if its near the 400 mhz spec then it'll run 98 perfectly fine. Have you considdered upgrading the ram?

I just checked the specs from the site in the first post and it's up to 400 megahurtz. The ram can be upgraded to 192 and maybe it was but not sure, since it wasn't originally mine. I'll have to check it out.
